Vogt is not only concerned with the documentation of projects, he is expanding the view on the fundamental question "What is nature?". How do we perceive it when we encounter built design with the seemingly unformed nature? The dialogue between the images of "primeval forests" in Central Europe and the formed nature (...) releases fantasies, shows similarities and incompatibilities, encourages comparisons and questions.
According to Vogt, hardly any other color is as difficult to reproduce in its nuances as green. Black-and-white photography is suitable for this purpose, as it allows extremely fine gradations and the highlighting of structures and surfaces. In taking colour photographs of gardens Vogt sees the risk of them becoming too lovely and pleasing, especially when the sun is shining. Therefore, he works almost exclusively under overcast skies. He finds the many shadows in a garden too confusing for a successful photograph, because they scatter his own attention and, according to his perception, also that of the observer too much.
